More States Take Legal Action Against Home Camera Technology Manufactured by Company with CCP Connections

Missouri’s Attorney General is taking action to protect the state’s residents and their personal data from CCP intrusion through home security cameras and baby monitors manufactured by a company with connections to the Chinese military.

Earlier this month, Attorney General Catherine Hanaway filed a lawsuit against Lorex, which relies on known Chinese surveillance firm Zhejiang Dahua Technology Co. that is legally bound to assist with China’s intelligence system. Lorex products continues to be sold on store shelves at Best Buy, Costco, Target and other large retail stores while concealing its ties to Dahua, which has previously been sanctioned by the United States government and the Pentagon has designated as a Chinese military company.

“The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. Missouri will not allow the CCP to put its hand on our cradles. Parents place these cameras over cribs and in bedrooms to protect their children, not to invite a foreign adversary into their homes,” Attorney General Hanaway said in a press release announcing the lawsuit.

Missouri isn’t the first state to sound the alarm about Lorex. In October, Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers filed a similar lawsuit and told Fox News, "This is a national issue, and we are leading the fight in Nebraska against these companies who enable the CCP influence and surveillance." In August 2025, Florida AG James Uthmeier announced a subpoena of Lorex out of concern over potential foreign spying risks and consumer privacy violations.

Technology manufactured by companies connected to the CCP come in various forms and are often sought-after products by American households unaware of the hidden threats. These states are taking the right actions to reduce the risk and help strengthen the safety and security of American communities.
