Protecting US Universities from Foreign Influence and Knowledge Theft
Newsweek recently reported that hundreds of millions of dollars from sanctioned Chinese entities have been pouring into universities across America that could fund influence and the transfer of knowledge.
Concerned about foreign adversary influence and access to important research, the U.S. Department of Education released data on these donations, which showed 527 donations from Chinese entities. “Simple open-source efforts like running the name of a foreign entity against well-known government watchlists will allow the public greater insight into who is funding American universities — and allow them to ask what influence that funding may be buying," Under Secretary of Education Nicholas Kent said with the release of the data.
CUSP has grown increasingly concerned with the CCP’s strategy of exerting its influence on campuses, and lauded the partnership between the U.S. Department of Education and the State Department to help protect American universities. The protection of American ideas and innovation from foreign adversaries seeking to steal our intellectual property and protect critical supply chains is why we can’t let our campuses be vulnerable targets.
