Protecting America’s Education System from Foreign Influence

The U.S. Department of Education and the State Department recently formed a partnership to help protect American Universities from foreign influence. The CCP has been pursuing a strategy of exerting its influence and access to research by providing funding and other resources to American colleges and universities. This new partnership will help increase transparency in the reporting of foreign gifts made to American universities and identify potential threats.

The House Select Committee on China has been focused on the CCP’s influence in America’s K-12 education system, and Committee Chairman John Moolemaar praised this new partnership, stating campuses have become “havens for China’s espionage efforts” and they seek to “promote its authoritarian agenda, and gain access to taxpayer-funded research.”

The Department of Education has also published a website that publishes foreign funding provided to American universities. The website shows China is the second biggest donor, having spent more than $6 billion to gain access and advance its agenda on U.S. universities.
