Florida’s China Prevention Unit Targets Global Criminal Enterprises

Florida continues to recognize the Chinese threat. On February 3rd, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced the creation of the China Prevention Unit. Operating under the AG’s office, the unit will focus on consumer protection as well as cyber fraud, money laundering, and other practices linked to the Chinese Communist Party.

The unit is already working to combat the CCP, Attorney General Uthmeier said that the office has issued subpoenas to various health and technology companies including Lorex, TP-Link, and Contec with the focus on allegations that involve data and privacy concerns as well as child product safety issues.

Kelly Currie, a member of the State Armor Advisory Board and a retired ambassador is sounding the alarm that these Florida scams are part of a wider global web of criminal enterprises:

"This is a $50 billion a year global industry that is primarily run on a backbone of Chinese transactional criminal organizations that are connected to the Chinese communist party state," Currie said.

Florida continues to be persistent in combatting the CCP. In December, AG Uthmeier took legal action against six different Florida smoke shops for selling illegal Chinese vapes to children, vowing to hold retailers accountable. Florida is not backing down, and is leading the way in preventing these Chinese criminal enterprises from harming more Americans. Florida knows it’s time to fight back, and they are leading the charge.
