Illicit Vape Enforcement by the Numbers
In total this year, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have stopped more than 6 million unauthorized e-cigarettes worth over $120 million from entering the country (as of September 10, 2026).
On September 10, HHS announced the seizure of 4.7 million units of unauthorized e-cigarette products with an estimated retail value of $86.5 million—the largest-ever seizure of this kind.
As part of this effort, FDA contacted 37 importers and import entry filersregarding their responsibility to ensure the products they import comply with U.S. requirements and that their import entries must contain complete and accurate information moving forward.
On May 22, the FDA and CBP announced it seized nearly $34 million worth of illegal e-cigarette products earlier this year in February, almost all of which originated in China.
