HHS Releases Youth Vaping Resources Guide

As part of its effort to combat youth use of illegal vapes, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of the Surgeon General has released a Youth Vaping Resource Guide.  The guide follows recent enforcement actions, including the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s seizure of 4.7 million units of mostly Chinese unauthorized e-cigarette products worth an estimated $86.5 million

In the release of the guide, titled “Sound the Alarm: Youth Vaping Can Harm,” HHS highlighted the concerning statistic that 85% of e-cigarette devices and pods sold in U.S. retail outlets are illegal products. It outlines how vapes are being popularized through features on the vape such as reward systems and competitions to encourage children to collect more and the juicy flavors specifically designed to target kids.

CUSP welcomes this new resource to help equip leaders with information and tools to help protect their communities. We have been closely following the Trump Administration’s commitment to tackling the rise of illicit vapes in our communities, and applauded the combined strategy of enforcement and awareness efforts as to combat illicit vapes as outlined in the Make Our Children Healthy Again report released earlier this month by HHS Secretary Kennedy.
