Congress Sends Letter Calling For More Action Against CCP’s Technology Battlefield
On November 3, Chairman John Moolenaar of the Select Committee on China, Brian Mast of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Rick Crawford of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and Andrew Garbarino of the Committee on Homeland Security sent a letter to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick calling for an investigation from the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICTS) into CCP-backed companies and products. The members requested a briefing by November 30th, 2025, that details plans for OICTS’ evaluations and guidance.
OICTS’s main purpose is to protect the domestic United States’ information and communications technology against national security threats from foreign adversaries. With the CCP’s strategy of using technology companies to infiltrate everyday Americans’ lives, Congress remains focused on combating this serious threat. “Chinese companies will exploit every backdoor to compromise America’s technology and infrastructure. Beijing’s infiltration of connected cars, drones, and solar components shows why Congress must urgently codify this critical ICTS authority," said Chairman Mast in the letter to Secretary Lutnick.
CCP infiltration has emerged across many economic sectors. In September, Nebraska AG Mike Hilgers sued Lorex, claiming the baby monitoring company had strong CCP ties. In October, the Senate passed the Biosecure Act, cutting funding to CCP-funded biotech companies.
"American national security increasingly depends on the entities that control the data, software, and digital systems that power national infrastructure. We have already seen through a variety of cyber-attacks against the United States that China views information technology as a battlefield.” The Chairmen concluded in their letter.
Strengthening our defenses against domestic CCP attacks is imperative for national security. From illegal vapes, to drones, cameras, and medicine, the CCP and its influence remain a stark threat to the American people.
